NISSIN FOODS Group’s Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Targets Achieve Science Based Targets (SBT) Initiative Certification

NISSIN FOODS HOLDINGS CO., LTD. (President and Representative Director, CEO: Koki Ando, “the Company”) announced that the greenhouse gas emission reduction targets set by the NISSIN FOODS Group (“the Group”) has achieved certification on April 9, 2020, from the Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative as science-based targets that limit the average rise in global temperatures to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels aligned with the Paris Agreement *1.

The Group has formulated the environmental strategy EARTH FOOD CHALLENGE 2030 to realize a sustainable society and raise corporate value.

Environmental problems on a global scale are becoming more apparent in recent years. Under such circumstances, the Group has positioned measures against climate change as one of its top-priority issues and is undertaking initiatives such as promoting energy-saving programs and improving the rate of renewable energy use.

The Group will continue to fulfill its responsibility toward realizing a sustainable society by actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

*1 The Paris Agreement is a multinational agreement regarding the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that was adopted at the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Paris in 2015.

Greenhouse gas reduction targets of EARTH FOOD CHALLENGE 2030

Scope 1^2 + 2^3	By fiscal 2031, reduce the Group’s overall greenhouse gas emissions by 30% compared to fiscal 2019
Scope 3^*4	By fiscal 2031, reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the value chain by 15% compared to fiscal 2019

About the Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative

The Science Based Targets initiative was established in 2015 by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), and the World Resources Institute (WRI). The initiative recommends companies to set science-based targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to limit the average rise in global temperatures to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels.

*2 Refers mainly to greenhouse gas emissions resulting directly from the fossil fuels a company uses (direct emissions).
*3 Refers mainly to greenhouse gas emissions from the use of electricity and steam procured by a company (indirect emissions).
*4 Refers mainly to greenhouse gas emissions from a company’s value chain such as procurement of raw materials, transportation, and disposal (excluding Scope 1 and 2).
